Asha Bhonsle (Maharastra, India 1933-?)

Asha Bhonsle is a popular Indian singer. She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 890 Bollywood movies. She is the sister of Lata Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle is considered a "versatile" singer and has sung many different type of songs though she is best known for her 'cabaret' numbers in Hindi films. She has sung in her mother tongue Marathi, other Indian languages as well as in some foreign languages such as English, Russian and Malay.

She has provided the singing voice for almost all popular Bollywood actresses from the 1950s to date, including Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, Tabu, Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor, Amisha Patel, Bipasha Basu and others.
